Nebraska students sign to become teachers with Lincoln Public Schools
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Public Schools has seen its athletes signing commitment letters to a certain collegiate team plenty of times, but it has never seen a signing event for people wanting to work for the district.
As part of LPS’s Early Childhood Education program, eight students signed the agreement to become future early childhood teachers at LPS on Thursday.
The eight students enrolled in early childhood education programs at the University of Nebraska-Kearney and University of Nebraska-Lincoln had the unique opportunity to be apart of this program, which even helps them with tuition fees and professional learning.

Lia Ortiz, a senior at UNK, is just one of the participants seeking to become an educator.
“You learn a lot hands-on right away, before you’re even a teacher,” Ortiz said. “You’re doing all the things. You’re making sure the students are comfortable, but also cared for. Basic needs to need to be met. We’re going to keep doing whatever it is to make them able to learn.”
